The University at Buffalo Anderson Gallery is pleased to present a special exhibition, A Tribute to David K. Anderson, to celebrate the life of David K. Anderson and his generous donations to the arts at the University at Buffalo and the Western New York Community.  David K. Anderson’s gifts to UB are one of the largest in the arts that the College of Arts and Sciences has ever received.  In addition to the gallery that now serves as the university’s museum, Anderson donated 1,466 modern and contemporary works of art from the Martha Jackson and David Anderson collections, the Martha Jackson Gallery Archives, and endowment support.

Comprised of selected artworks donated to UB by David Anderson, the exhibition will fill the entire UB Anderson Gallery. In anticipation of this celebration, conservation work was done on some artworks, allowing them to be on view for the first time in many years, including a group of fragile, mixed media sculptures and collages shown in the groundbreaking and innovative 1960 exhibition at Martha Jackson Gallery, New Forms – New Media, that was filmed by CBS and broadcast over national television.

Located in the city between UB’s three campuses, the UB Anderson Gallery fulfills his intention to provide an academic resource center for the university and the community that would prepare future gallery and museum professionals through experiential learning and objects-based research, sustain interest in the arts through educational programs, and encourage collaborations between the university and its regional, national and international communities.
